Nestled in the heart of Des Moines, Washington, via Marina Wood Fired Pizza & Italian Cafe offers an inviting Italian dining experience that captures the essence of traditional cuisine with a modern, cozy twist. This vibrant Italian restaurant, cocktail bar, pizza place, and wine bar is a true gem for those craving authentic flavors paired with a warm, wood-fired ambience.
From the moment you step in, the nostalgic yet lively atmosphere wraps you in comfort. Whether seated inside or enjoying the fresh air on the patio, the ambiance is perfectly crafted for both relaxed lunches and intimate dinners. Attentive service compliments the setting, with staff who are as passionate about your experience as the food itself.
The menu at via Marina is a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage, showcasing a diverse range of dishes that excite the palate. Standout appetizers like the Potato Croquettes — mashed potatoes laced with pecorino and mozzarella, breaded and fried to golden perfection — paired with a tangy marinara are a delightful way to start. If you prefer seafood, the tender Sauté di Vongole clams infused with garlic and olive oil deliver an elegant coastal touch.
The pizza here is a revelation. Baked in a wood-fired oven, each pizza boasts a subtly smoky crust that enhances but never overwhelms the fresh dough’s robust flavor. Classics like the Margarita Pizza showcase fresh mozzarella, rich tomato sauce, and basil, while the Diavola Pizza offers a tantalizing spicy kick. Gourmet selections like the Pizza with Arugula and Burrata Caprese elevate the experience further, blending peppery greens with creamy cheese for layers of texture and taste.
Pasta lovers are treated to hearty, authentically crafted dishes such as the creamy Chicken Marsala served over delicate fettuccine, where tender chicken and earthy crimini mushrooms swim in a luscious Marsala wine and cream sauce. The Rigatoni Sausage & Rapini combines sautéed greens and savory Italian sausage in a light, spicy sauce that feels both comforting and refined. Traditional favorites like Cacio e Pepe highlight the purity of simplicity—spaghetti tossed in pecorino and freshly cracked black pepper, showcasing Italy in every bite.
Desserts at via Marina are equally indulgent. The Cheesecake comes with a subtle limoncello note and a delightful biscotti crust, offered with your choice of fresh raspberry or luscious Nutella topping. For chocolate aficionados, the Mocha Decadence Cake is a heavenly blend of dark chocolate and espresso, served alongside a vibrant raspberry sauce. And for a charming twist, the Nutella Calzone wraps hazelnut chocolate spread inside deliciously baked dough — a sweet surprise to end your meal.
Guests consistently praise via Marina for its cozy yet energetic setting and exceptional attention to quality. Dita B noted the ample parking and the fresh, wood-fired garlic bread that perfectly complements their dishes. Kevin Rodal highlighted the “super fresh” bread and homemade-tasting sausage, while M E Nelson appreciated the nostalgic vibe coupled with a perfectly balanced smoky crust on the pizzas. Melvin Mullings loved the attentive service and variety of seating options, savoring specialties like the Caprese and Walnut/Gorgonzola salad. Even those who initially experienced inconsistencies have returned to celebrate the undeniable flavors, as B and J shared during their revisit, praising the chicken marsala and a “fantastic” overall meal.

We used to go to Pulcinella in Renton, but hadn’t gone for a while since we moved to Kent. Then I found out that Via Marina is a sister company. One great thing we noticed right away was that unlike Pulcinella, this place has an ample of parking spaces available. Everything was so delicious. The garlic bread was either complimentary or came with the salad, I’m not sure, but it’s wood-fired, so it’s extra good. The pizza was great, as yummy as Pulcinella, which makes sense as they are sister companies. The lasagna looked unassuming but it was a perfect balance of the savory of the meat sauce and the creaminess of the ricotta. We were very happy. With everything
The restaurant had cozy vibes and the staff were attentive and great! The bread they brought out as an appetizer was super fresh and served warm. We tried the Enzo Pizza and Rigatoni Sausage and Rapini. They were delicious! Their sausage is amazing and it tastes like it might be home made.
Quaint little Italian Pizzeria spot. Ambiance was outstanding with a nostalgic feel! Wood fired pizza was delicious, subtle smokiness to the crust, but love that it did not overpower the flavor of the dough! Fresh mozzarella on top with fresh ingredients you can taste! Will definitely come back so I can check out the pasta!
Came here for a late lunch on a Sunday. Wasn't too busy and was able to get seated right away. I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating available. Host sat us, and a couple minutes later our waitress came by to introduce herself and take our orders. Everything we ordered was very tasty. Only managed to get a picture of the Caprese and Walnut/Gorgonzola salad. Service was quick and friendly, and portion sizes were perfect. Would definitely come back when visiting Seattle again.
We've gone here a few times and it's a bit hit and miss. First couple times was really good but the last time was a let down. My wife's pizza crust was really soggy and my calzone was wattery in the middle. Not what you want from brick oven pizza. We'll try it again and hope for the best. Edit. Just came back today and the food was fantastic. Very good. My wife got the chicken marsala and I got a spaghetti and clam dish. So good. The outdoor seating is good except for the loud traffic. The service was great.
We love it here. They have great beer, pizza and dessert. Had the Capri pizza and the chocolate mousse cake and it was amazing. Good price too compared to other restaurants.
Foods were good. I order bowl of minestrone soup. Appetizer was pizza bread. It was yummy. We dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I got some if fectttucine Alfredo and pizza from my friends’ orders. The pasta noodle cook perfect and Alfredo sauce was good. It was not salty. Pizza was full of pepperoni and ham. Foods were not salty. The service was good.
Via Marina is my favorite Italian restaurant in the state of WA. It's so cozy, delicious, and relaxing being here. Their wood fired pizza + breads are impeccable. The sauces are so well balanced. The cocktails are worth the visit alone and a whole page dedicated to their wine selection! 10/10 come with family, on a date, solo like I do regularly but feel welcomed each time by the staff. Highly recommend the mocha decadence for dessert, it is divine. Huckleberry Vodka is my go-to mmmmm yummy. Chicken Marsla is a classic and they do it up perfectly. Their Minestrone soup is a must-have with the wood fired garlic bread. I'd come for the soup alone!
